IC 2177 - Reflection Nebula in Monoceros IC 2177 is a Reflection Nebula in the Monoceros constellation . IC 2177 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year. IC 2177 is a region of nebulosity that lies along the border between the constellations Monoceros and Canis Major. It is a roughly circular HII region centred on the Be star HD53367. This nebula was discovered by Welsh amateur astronomer Isaac Roberts and was described by him as, "pretty bright, extremely large, irregularly round, very diffuse." IC 2177 would not normally be a challenging target, but at my imaging site, its highest elevation is only 37 degrees. Despite the "soft" seeing at this elevation, as well as my image scale of only 3.26 arcsec/pixel, there is still a good amount of detail that can be observed in this image.
